Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital has been an active participant in the health of Dixon and the surrounding communities for more than 100 years. From the day KSB's doors opened on January 1, 1897, the mission of the hospital has been to provide skilled, compassionate healthcare in a facility equipped with the latest technology. All these years later, that mission is unchanged. KSB Hospital remains committed to the communities we serve. That commitment can be seen in KSB's growth. In recent years, the hospital has expanded beyond the walls of the hospital to provide physician care in facilities in Commerce Towers and Edwards Clinic in Dixon. The hospital has also built clinic facilities in Oregon, Polo, Amboy and Ashton to improve the healthcare access for those communities.

New and updated facilities can be found throughout the halls of the hospital as well. Recently, KSB invested in the latest diagnostic radiology equipment to give doctors state-of-the-art tools to allow them to help patients more quickly and effectively. Updated cardiology equipment as well as improved and expanded lab facilities, an expanded and relocated gift shop and chapel mark some of the newer improvements at KSB.

In 2003, KSB Hospital entered into a partnership with the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford to create Illinois' first rural residency program. Accredited by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education, the program will train medical professionals for service in underserved rural communities. The first two physicians to be admitted into the program will begin in July of 2004.

Also in the fall of 2003, KSB received the Arbor Award for Highest Overall Patient Satisfaction from Arbor Associated, the independent firm KSB uses to survey patient satisfaction. KSB's overall patient satisfaction rate of 96.8%was the highest level achieved by any hospital 200 beds or fewer that Arbor surveys, and was the highest level reached by KSB in the five years Arbor has surveyed its patients.
