Heartland Health Services
Heartland was formed in 1991 after Kim and Dan Gaffey bought Northwestern Home Health Care from Ron and Shirley Marlier. The company was renamed Heartland on February 14, 1991, an appropriate day, as the company works from the heart. Kim Gaffey, is a registered nurse, trained at Sauk Valley College, received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Illinois in 1984 and is now completing her Masters degree in nursing. Kim has worked in home health care for 25 years. Her early belief that families should remain in their homes through the end of life, has fueled her desire and dedication to build Heartland Health Services.
Heartland Health Services is a multi-faceted home health business. Services range from companion services to highly technical nursing care round the clock. Companion Services are often thought to be new to the area, but in reality are the oldest form of home care. In years past, hospitals handed out lists of “sitters” for families to call and get help. Heartland has taken that same concept further. Their companions are available on short notice, 24 hours daily, with inservice training and professional support by supervising nursing staff. Many companion services do not have the professional support by a nursing management. This sets their service above others as their nurses are on call 24 hours for emergency situations or counseling of medical issues and coordination with individual physicians. Service then steps up to certified nurses aides, providing the same loving dedicated home care our companions do, with additional medical training. The nursing staff of LPN’s and RN’s provide highly technical care to enable patients to remain at home versus institutionalization. Pediatric care is provided for children on ventilators and disabling life issues. Nurses are trained for specialized situations in home care. Heartland prides themselves in being the only agency in the Sauk Valley that provides home care on any service level needed. Their mission is to provide professional home care to our community with dedication, love and individualized service with highly trained professional staff.
The nursing staff carry laptop computers to enable them to have all patient information at their fingertips 24 hours a day.
