In 1917 Ferd Niemann, Sr., and Steve Niemann opened their first corner grocery store. It took a lot of hard work and progressive thinking, but they succeeded. By 1930, the Niemann brothers had 10 corner grocery stores and a thriving wholesale business. The industry and the company went through many changes in the next four decades. As the supermarket evolved, they were on the cutting edge...building the first supermarket in the Midwest in 1940. In 1969, Rich Niemann, Sr. at the reins, the company phased out its wholesale business to concentrate on retail.

The next 25 years was committed to expanding into new markets in the region and to strengthening their position in existing markets. For instance, the County Market store in Sterling opened in 1994 with 56,000 square feet. Dean Truckenmiller, Store Director, has extensive retail background.
